Next PPC Board Meeting – Tuesday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m.
The Power Play Club Board of Directors will be meeting online via Zoom on Tuesday evening, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting is open to all enrolled Power Play Club members (2021-2022 membership applies for off-season meetings); if you are interested in attending, please contact PPC vice president Dave Malerich at vicepresident@powerplayclub.org.
As has become our tradition at the May meeting, GWH head coach Brad Frost will be in attendance to discuss the upcoming season's schedule – both the game calendar and PPC events – plus fundraising & target projects and other related topics.
Support GWH through service to the Power Play Club! We continue to ask for your assistance fulfilling several remaining vacancies on the PPC board or with other club responsibilities. While board meetings have routinely occurred monthly during the off-season and as-necessary once the new season begins, we are discussing the possibility of spreading them out across the full year. If you are interested in a board or other volunteer position, please contact PPC president Bill Johnson at president@powerplayclub.org.
GWH roster update: Several '21-22 seniors returning for '22-23
Following the announcement of Grace Zumwinkle's return to Gopher Women's Hockey on April 20, the team has followed that up with updates regarding the other seniors with remaining eligibility.
In order announced (and pictured below, left to right), it was confirmed that Gracie Ostertag, Crystalyn Hengler, Savannah Norcross, Emily Oden, Catie Skaja, Abigail Boreen, and Taylor Heise will all be back in Maroon & Gold for the 2022-2023 season, looking to defend their WCHA regular-season championship and also bring home some post-season hardware.
We look forward to seeing all our returning players this fall!!
Alumnae news: Räty claims 2nd WHL Cup with KRS Vanke Rays
Gopher Women's Hockey alumna and goaltending stand-out Noora Räty won her second Russian Women's Hockey League WHL Cup championship as a member of the KRS Vanke Rays. The Vanke Rays completed a 3 games-to-none finals sweep of Scythian with a 2-1 shootout victory in Game 3 this past Tuesday (April 26) after winning 3-1 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2. They also claimed the title in 2020.
Räty played every minute of the finals, stopping a combined 87 of 91 shots during the run of play for a .956 save percentage and 1.27 goals-against average. She also shut down the three Scythian shooters she faced in the Game 3 shootout to clinch the Cup. Across all three playoff rounds, she posted a 6-1-1 record (as the game with the shootout goes down as a tie for goaltending stats) with a .950 SV% and 1.30 GAA; she was also a perfect 11-0-0 in her regular-season appearances with a .964 SV%, a 0.94 GAA, and 3 shutouts. Congratulations, Noora!!
