Gophers top 2017-2018 WCHA Preseason Coaches' Poll; Zumwinkle tabbed as Preseason Rookie of the Year
Gopher Women's Hockey was named as the top team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's annual preseason coaches' poll on September 12, heading into the 2017-2018 season. Minnesota earned 4 of the 7 first-place votes and 34 points in the poll.
Minnesota edged Wisconsin as the Badgers posted 33 points with three first-place votes. Minnesota Duluth and Ohio State tied for third in the poll with 23 points each. Bemidji State (14 points), St. Cloud State (11 points), and Minnesota State (9 points) rounded out the poll.
The league also announced a pair of individual player awards, with Gopher freshman forward Grace Zumwinkle named as the conference's Preseason Rookie of the Year, earning four votes. UMD's Ashton Bell, Bemidji State's Clair DeGeorge, and Ohio State's Emma Maltais each earned one vote.
Ohio State junior goaltender Kassidy Sauve earned the award as the WCHA Preseason Player of the Year with 6 votes. Wisconsin sophomore Abby Roque earned one vote.
US National Women's Team “The Time is Now Tour” dates annouced; USA vs. Canada at Xcel Energy Center – Sunday, December 3
USA Hockey has announced several additional game dates as part of the U.S. National Women's Team's "The Time Is Now Tour", including a stop in St. Paul in early December.
Team USA will face Canada at the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday, December 3, at 3 p.m. CT. Tickets go on sale on Friday, September 22, at Noon CT, and will be available at the Xcel Energy Center box office, online at TicketMaster.com, and by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
"The Time Is Now Tour", presented by Toyota, begins October 25 with a game against Canada at Agganis Arena in Boston. Both squads will then head south to the Tampa, FL, area and will be joined by the national teams from Finland and Sweden for the annual Four Nations Cup tournament, running November 7 through 12. After the game in St. Paul, the Americans will face Canada one more time in San Jose, CA, on December 15. The full tour schedule can be found here.
Also announced on GopherSports.com, Gopher Women's Hockey single-game tickets and "Pick-Your-Pack" ticket 3-packs are now on sale.
Pick-Your-Pack ticket packages give you the opportunity to select one game from each of three predetermined groups to create your own customized three-pack of tickets. Single-game tickets are priced at $10 for reserved chairback seats, $8 for adult general admission, $5 for students, youth, and senior general admission, and $4 for groups of 10 or more.

GWH Youth VIP Season Pass returns for another season – The Gopher Women's Hockey Youth VIP Season Pass is back for its sixth season in 2017-2018, and registration is available now.
The Youth VIP Season Pass provides girls and boys in eighth grade or under with free admission to all regular-season Gopher women’s hockey home games at Ridder Arena.
You can register your child on GopherSports.com and they can claim their VIP Pass at the opening weekend of the Gopher Women's Hockey regular season when Minnesota hosts Merrimack on Friday, September 29 or Sunday, October 1. Passes can also be picked up at any other regular-season home game.
The U.S. Women's National Hockey team will be featured in The Time is Now Tour presented by Toyota, starting with a contest against Canada at Boston University's Agganis Arena on Wednesday, October 25. The Finnish national women's hockey team, including Gopher Women's Hockey alumnae Mira Jalosuo and Noora Räty, completed a three-game sweep of a Euro Hockey Tour event last weekend in Tranås, Sweden, with wins by 3-1 over Russia, 4-0 over Sweden, and 7-0 over Germany.
Räty started and won two of the games, making 22 saves against Russia and earning a 9-save shutout against the Germans. Jalosuo tallied an assist in the game against Germany.
In other tournament action, Sweden also beat Germany 7-0, Russia topped the Germans 3-1, and Sweden defeated the Russians 3-2.
Some Twitter and Instagram posts from Noora and Team Finland are available in an update shared on GopherSports.com. Finland will host Sweden for 3 games in early October, being played in Mariehamn, the capital of the Finnish island territory of Åland in the Baltic Sea.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association Women's League has announced a partnership with Husky Productions for a new weekly online highlights show. Beginning October 2, the WCHA Highlights Show will be available each Monday afternoon on the league's Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages, along with WCHA.com.
An introductory video with show producer and host Kirsten Krull is available on Youtube. Husky Productions is a student-run sports production with a faculty advisor as part of St. Cloud State University's Department of Mass Communications.
