Baldwin named WCHA Defensive Player of the Month – Gopher senior co-captain Sydney Baldwin was named as the WCHA Defensive Player of the Month for September & October, as announced on November 1. Going into the series against Minnesota State, she led all Division I defensemen in points (11), assists (10), assists per game (1.00), and blocked shots (34), while being the conference defensive leader in points per game (1.10), power-play points (4), shots on goal (29), and shots on goal per game (2.90). Congratulations, Sydney!!
Zumwinkle earns Rookie of the Week award – Freshman Grace Zumwinkle was selected as the WCHA Rookie of the Week, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, following a 5-point (1G, 4A) performance against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Her point and assist totals for the weekend series led the league, as did her 10 shots on goal; she also had a +4 rating in the two games. The award was the first weekly conference honor of her career. Congratulations, Grace!!
2016-2017 GWH players earn more academic accolades – Seven members of the 2016-2017 Gopher Women's Hockey team were named as members of the inaugural class of American Hockey Coaches Association Krampade® All-American Scholars. Sydney Baldwin, Dani Cameranesi, Nicole Schammel, Kate Schipper, Lee Stecklein, Taylor Williamson, and Alex Woken were honored for each averaging a 3.6 GPA and playing in at least 40% of the team's games during the year (with allowances made for injury).
