The U.S. Women's Under-18 National Hockey Team, under the direction of head coach Joel Johnson, won the annual August series against their Canadian counterparts, 2 games to 1.
Playing this year in Lake Placid, NY, the teams split the first two games, 4-1 USA and 3-0 Canada, before the Americans won the third contest yesterday, 3-1. For the series, Canada's Claire Dalton led all scorers with 3 points (1G, 2A), while USA's Abbey Murphy was the only multi-goal scorer, lighting the lamp twice. Goaltender Lindsay Reed earned both American victories, stopping 60 of 62 shots.
The series follows camps by both USA Hockey and Hockey Canada, and also acts as a scouting and training opportunity before the Under-18 Women's World Championship in January. The 2018 edition of the World Championship will be held in Dmitrov, Russia, running January 6 through 13.
