2016-17 Gopher sophomore Sarah Potomak and her sister, incoming Gopher freshman Amy Potomak, were among 28 players named to the centralized pre-Olympic roster for the Canadian Women's National Hockey Team on Thursday, May 11.
The players will begin their preparation with fitness testing in late May, and they and staff members will come together in Calgary this August on a full-time basis with Hockey Canada, based out of the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park.
Canada’s final 23-player roster for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games is tentatively scheduled to be determined and announced in late December.
Schuler named head coach of 2018 Canada's Olympic Team
Canadian Olympian (1998) and former Minnesota-Duluth assistant coach Laura Schuler was named as the head coach of the 2018 Canadian Women's Olympic Hockey Team on Wednesday.
Schuler has served head coach for Canada’s National Women’s Team since the 2015-16 season. She was the head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2014 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship, and an assistant coach for the 2013 gold medal-winning Canadian U-18 team. She was also head coach for one season at Dartmouth College.
