Another member of the University of Minnesota hockey family will be representing the United States at the 2018 Winter Olympics, as former Gopher men's hockey goaltender Robb Stauber was named as the head coach of the U.S. Women's Olympic Hockey Team on May 1.
Stauber won the 1988 Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the best Division I men's player, the first goaltender to win the award. He was the head coach in Team USA's 2017 World Championship victory last month in Michigan, and served as an assistant coach during four previous IIHF World Championships and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In addition to serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team and U.S. Women's National Under-22 Team on multiple other occasions, he also served as the head coach of the Minnesota Whitecaps during the 2015-2016 season.
